Teen Apparel: Sales Down, Shares Up

Thompson Finanacial has reported the results of a teen apparel poll and finds that “March same-store sales, or sales in stores open at least one year, fell 5.9 percent,” however, today most of the those stocks finished up.

The weakest performers include Pacific Sunwear of California Inc., with an 8 percent drop.

American Eagle Outfitters Inc. said same-store sales fell 12 percent in March and cut its first-quarter guidance.

Abercrombie & Fitch same-store sales fell 10 percent and Wet Seal Inc. same-store sales fell 10.8 percent.

Same-store sales at Zumiez Inc. fell 3 percent, nearly in line with the 2.9 percent drop analysts expected.

One of the few March same-store gainers was The Buckle which was reportedly up 20 percent. Zumeiz closed up $.96 on the day at $17.50.
