Tomorrow morning we are off to the annual SIMA Conference in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. Six hundred of the action sports industry’s finest invade the loving arms of the Royal Solaris Hotel.
Things I’m looking forward to this year: body whomping in the pounding shore break in front of the hotel, surfing the East Cape with 100 of my closest friends (Thanks, Liam.) The Rusty Putter (Don Brown will not knock me into the bushes this year). A new Ogio backpack with a bunch of logos on it. Really bad food that sometimes rolls through your mouth twice. The conferences: Zumiez’s Tom Campion telling us how he turned one clothing store into an action sports retail giant. Pacific Sunwear’s Seth Johnson describing what it’s like to have the action sports industry by the balls. Guy Kawasaki (the Apple fellow who spoke last year) giving his Evangelism talk. Guy is always good. Kathleen Gasperini from Label Networks presenting her state of the teen research. One of the living Kennedy’s (RFK, Jr.) to speak on the environment (hope the security runs deep on that one). And of course, the Cabo Crawl sponsored by Transworld Business. There’s more, but that will be later.
Word of warning: if you’re in the jacuzzi late at night, stay away from those holes in the bottom. They really suck.
